NCA are an accredited DFT bikeability provider and present cycle training on behalf of road safety teams and school sports partnerships.
Cycling is a popular activity whether as a form of transport or a sporting competition. We have collaborated with School Sports Partnership Managers across the North West to offer various activities to suit primary and high school students.
Our Instructors can organise a series of coached cycling sessions for PE modules, to fit in with the curriculum, or as a one off taster session.
We can deliver cycling sessions at your school, bringing bikes and equipment along. Or you can join us at NCA HQ, to utilise the fantastic green space in Philips Park.
Our bespoke coaching service enables teenagers and young people to access cycling activities whether on road or off road, or to learn about repairing bikes.
We can also arrange taster sessions, on the Manchester velodrome track, try BMX or Cycle speedway.
Mountain biking
Our Rocky Road course is designed to encourage confidence and participation.
Sign up for a taster session or a series of 4 to help progress riders onwards.
Bikeability
For individuals aspiring to cycle to school, various levels are accessible, contingent on the rider’s skill set.
Cycle speedway
Have a try at Cycle Speedway racing on a gravel track. No gears, no brakes!
BMX
A coached session at a British Cycling venue with qualified coaches and equipment supplied.
This is a track event, not freeride/stunt.
Training
Train your staff up to the required accredited standard by signing up to one of NCA’s Instructor training courses.
Do you want to be a qualified Ride Leader, MTB Instructor or Bikeability Instructor?
Are you a Bikeability Instructor needing to upgrade to the new national standards, or attend a CPD unit?
Level 1
During Level 1 Bikeability training, you learn to control and master your bike. The training takes place in an environment away from cars or traffic – usually in a playground or closed car park.
Level 2
During Level 2 training you will get out on the roads! Level 2 coached sessions give you a real cycling experience on quiet residential streets, so that you are able to deal with traffic on short journeys such as cycling to school.
Level 3
During Bikeability Level 3 training you will learn the skills to tackle more challenging, technical roads and traffic situations. Amongst others, roundabouts, multi-lane junctions and traffic lights are discussed and ridden. Level 3 training is delivered in smaller groups, or as a one-to-one so they can be tailored to your individual needs. We can help to plan your route and then ride it, such as a commuting route to work or college.
Level plus
Bikeability Plus is made up of a number of different modules you can add on to aid cycling skills progression:
- Bikeability Fix
- Bikeability Balance
- Bikeability Learn to Ride
- Bikeability Transition
- Bikeability Ride
- Bikeability Promotion
- Bikeability On Show
- Bikeability Bus
“Thank you for helping Charlie get back her confidence with her bike. It was well worth the money and it was brilliant to see her smiling all the way through.”
